Hmm... I'm still having a problem related to this. Ubuntu 8.04, on two different computers, one is PPC the other is i386. I have the gnome- panel (1:2.22.1-0ubuntu1) installed that supposedly fixed the issue. See bug #211604 My trash icon has disappeared on both machines. It disappeared first
