FWIW, I have noticed this behavior as well. Confronted with a black screen I ctrl-alt-f1 to a console and then back (actually, I tend to walk back along f2, f3... but that isn't necessary, I'm just weird). This brings back the screen so I think there is just an screen update missing somewhere. --

Update: After disabling all locking in Brightness and Lock control panel (switch lock to off, and unselecting the Require my password when waking from suspend), the problem still persists. Though less frequently. So, far I can go into another terminal Ctrl+Alt+F1 and run: ps ax | grep lightdm
