There has been no activity here or mention of similar issues in years
and it's likely resolved, closing but feel free to open a new report if
you still have problems in newer versions

I see this too. In nautilus click on search icon and then All Files.
Nothing is found whatever is typed in search field. Search within the
folder works.

I've done some further tests. The search does work using something like
the HUD method - but it either doesn't recurse, or doesn't recurse far.
I'm not finding much below the current directory being searched even
though there are matches three or four levels below that directory.
