I'll not likely doing it soon, we get hundred of bugs a week which is
way too many for the current team, we will deal with it in some time, it
would be better if you could do that since you get the issue and are can
reply to upstream questions then

having replaced the conf file with the correct one from above , my ubuntu
machine still fails as it does not understand the blackhumanlist.

Gary, Have you installed a theme with that name? If not it wont work.
The problem with this bug are the lines
[daemon]
GtkModulesList=gail:atk-bridge:/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libkeymouselistener:/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libdwellmouselistener
AddGtkModules=true
in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom

Confirmed for Ubuntu Feisty, commenting those lines runs GDM fine
