I had similar problems while having desktop effects on, but I just
experienced the switcher freezing on another pc that doesn't have any
effects on.

One thing I just looked at was my choice of login shell. I installed tcsh and
used that as my default shell. I just changed that
back to bash, logged out and logged back in. Now, I have both panels in shells
2-4, but still no mounted disks show on the desktop and no right click for 2-4.
I rebooted the system again, and I am back to where I was before, now with no
panels, no mounted disks and no right-click for
panels 2-4.

Well, I never had this problem with Edgy, so this is new. I installed mostly
the same applications on Feisty that I had on Edgy,
