upstream said it's not a bug: Ahh, I reread the original bug. Yes, the ^ key will only work in scientific mode because that's where the x^y button resides. The key equivalent of x squared is @. If you hover the mouse over the button you'll see this information. In gcalctool Basic mode, I used

And I replied. :) I must disagree, then, to why I cannot add a ^ in Advanced mode. It seems silly that a user must delete the 2 from the ^2 (squared) to be able to cube a number, etc. Shouldn't this at least be added as a feature request instead of rejecting it? -- Calculator doesn't let me
