I had a similar problem. Changing the preview thumbnail to never
solved the problem. On an educated guess I removed three .TIF files to
a separate directory and turned thumbnails back on. Nautilus hangs
quite religiously if I try to access the directory with the .TIF files
in it. Nice and
closing the bug for now then, feel free to reopen if that happens again

I've moved or cleaned all directories, containing lots of files (building
packages - more than 300 Mb of small source files) and the bug disappeared.
I'll try to reproduce it creating a directory full of small files.
