version of Ubuntu like Gutsy Gibbon you may grab a CD Image from here:

Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Does it
happen if you move .gnome2/session somewhere else? Does ping localhost
work correctly?

ping localhost works correctly. I have two PCs, in the first one I use
Gutsy Tribe 2, in the other one I use Feisty with Gutsy's compiled
sources (so I have the same GNOME in both systems). Both machines have
the same issue. It happened even when I moved .gnome2/session elsewhere.
