It happened again now (up-to-date 14.04 LTS now): screen started to fade out after pressing CTRL-ALT-L, then it stuck in the middle of process, I can move the mouse, but I can't do anything neither with mouse or keyboard. What helped: switching to text console (CTRL-ALT-F1) login, then killing
