but, I'm not sure that this is gnome specific issue, since it use to
work OK and then stopped on my ubuntu 15.04 at some point...

OK, here is my solution to this problem. I updated to evolution 3.16.0
from ppa:fta/gnome3 and it is working right now. and even more, with
this version I have server push notification so it is much better user
experience!

Clicking on the Continue editing button retuns to the mail message and
sending reproduces the same error.
Clicking on the Save to outbox button yields no result, the message is lost.
Clicking on the Try Again button just reproduces the error.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
