Ah dammit! Linux Mint 17 has file-roller 3.6.3 pinned, and due to the
higher priority of the Mint repo you don't get the upstream version
which is newer (3.10.2.1). The older file-roller 3.6.3 has no proper
support for unrar 5.0, and this is the cause of this bug. Install file-
roller 3.10.2.1 to
not an Ubuntu bug then, closing

Just found out that the similar bug is fixed in MATE 1.8 (but still
present in MATE 1.6).
