How to reproduce:

Import pictures from ext hd:
1) Launch Shotwell
2) Import from folder (without copying), point to a folder located on an 
ext4-formatted external USB hard drive.
3) Import completes successfully.
4) Close shotwell.

(Shutdown and power on laptop).

1) connect the usb hard drive; the folder where the pictures where imported 
from is accessible through Nautilus
2) Launch Shotwell from command line: the thumbnails show up without issues.
3) Double click on a thumbnail: as soon as the image is shown in low-res, 
filling the entire right-hand area of the application, Shotwell crashes with 
the following output:
