Yes, I stated in previous comment that I was attaching the logs if they could
be of any use.
I had switched to Thunderbird in the meantime, not modified any evolution conf
file to keep it default, so I cannot tell how this got fixed. But running

Not sure this is of any use now. I did install the packages you pointed me at
(sorry the previous logs were incomplete) and the current gutsy upgrades.
Getting the backtrace got evolution to open and run normally (which I had not
noticed, switched to Tb in the mean time...).

Looks like bug #98728, could you install evolution-dbg evolution-data-
server-dbg libglib2.0-0-dbg and get a new backtrace and valgrind log?

i cannot reproduce your bug with under gutsy, here all works as should.
