When you open multiple files with Totem, they are put in a queue and will play after each other. The previous and Next buttons still work, but there is no way to see the playlist or to edit it. Get rid of the playlist functionality entirely or make the playlist view / sidebar accessible via the

The playlist is nowhere to be found in Totem. Apparently it was perceived being too complex by the Gnome guys. The problem is that there are previous/next buttons which apparently navigate through some kind of an invisible playlist, so there is a notion of a playlist. That is extremely confusing
