Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus
Background: I am running Feisty Workstation. From nautilus I am trying to connect to a SMB share on a remote machine. As browsing no longer offers a login prompt when accessing restricted servers, I am going through the "Connect to Server" feature. Observation: When setting connection parameters in the corresponding dialog, the username is listed as optional. When I leave it blank, the resulting connect-URL looks like smb:/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/share, i.e. the username is simply omitted from the resulting URL. When I use the resulting connection it works perfect, most likely because my local login name is the same as the one I want to connect as on the remote server. After the next reboot (haven't tried anything less drastic such as restarting gdm) the connection (saved as an icon on the desktop) no longer works; rather, it reverts to the default behavior of authenticating me as "nobody". The bright side: Doing things right an supplying a username will result in the correct behavior, even across system restarts. Please let me know if I can run additional test or provide additional information.
