Either way, since Unity is dead, there's no point in figuring this out.
It's not an issue with Ubuntu 16.10, and since Unity is dead anyway,

Hello Brandon,
can you try to open nautilus from a terminal, please? This might give us
some extra error messages.
And please check if the command "net" from the package "samba-common-
bin" is installed on you machine:

I have converted my father to Linux, and he's on Ubuntu 16.04.1, and his
computer is observing this same Nautilus freeze. I am hoping someone
can look into this. He doesn't have a launchpad account, and doesn't
know a single thing about Linux to even really be of assistance here.
