I don't understand why that bug was marked as fixed when the standard vlc package in Ubuntu is obviously not fixed and still causing those crashes and bothering users. And I really don't see the point for opening a new bug report for the same old problem, so I just changed the status of this bug.

Temporary workaround: Go to VLC -> Tools -> Customize Interface -> Time toolbar and remove the toolbar (just click on the bar items in the upper section of the dialogue until it's gone). This will remove the timeline slider and avoids possible lockups. -- You received this bug notification
