i solved this problem this way:
installed compiz from synaptic
gone on sistem-preference-aspect and choose no effects
computer asked me to keep this settings i answered yes
i used the no-effects desktop and switcher running well now.
i went again on preference - aspect and i choose the maximum
I've two virtual desktop.
The applet show the two desktop and i can't change of desktop by a click on the
applet.
But I can change of desktop with the Ctrl+Right or Ctrl+Left.
Please help me, thanks.

You may want to look to the current libwnck, gnome-panel or compiz
reports, we have hundreds of bugs to deal with daily and searching for
the exact number of the report can be hard sometimes. thanks.
