The .desktop was supported by nautilus 1:3.26.4-0~ubuntu18.04.5 in bionic. The feature has been removed[1] from nautilus by upstream. There is no progress from upstream to re-implement the feature[2]. Device Enablement team will need to find another approach to meet customer's requirement. [1]
