Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gucharmap

Steps to reproduce:

1) Run gucharmap from a command line
2) Change some settings (e.g. selected character, bold/italic, etc)
3) Close gucharmap
4) Run gucharmap from a command line again
5) Observe that the changed settings have been saved
6) Now run gucharmap from Applications->Accessories->Character Map
7) Observe that everything is back to default settings

Seems like gucharmap isn't talking to gconf properly. From the command
line run "gconftool -g /apps/gucharmap/last_char", then move to a
different character and run "gconftool -g /apps/gucharmap/last_char"
again. It should have changed. This only happens when run from the
command line.

I have an understanding of the gucharmap source code, how to use gdb,
etc, but I can't figure out how to load debugging symbols into gdb when
attaching it to an already-running program (as is necessary to debug it
when run from the applications menu).

** Affects: gucharmap (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
