I did
$ /usr/lib/control-center/gnome-settings-daemon --sync
so I got this:

I forgot, when this finishes

All groups except first one will be ignored

I upgraded to dapper today and have the same problem

Something in the last few days worth of updates fixed it for me. There were
quite a few xserver related packages it was one of those.

I'm getting this one too, in Dapper with Gnome 2.14.0 build date 2006-Mar-16.
It has been doing this ever since I did a dist-upgrade from Breezy.
Things I have tried with no success: create a new user (still happens to new
user); run gdmsetup and change a few
