Is this really a duplicate? I don't see anything about the crashing
with signal 5 of bug #179444, and on that bug Fn+F8 does switch displays
(it just also crashes g-s-d)

Yeah it is. There was no crash log attached to this bug, but there was one
developed that had the same end results.
