I had the issue but with gnome-power-manager checked all the time. The
I tried to uncheck it, reboot, recheck it, reboot. Seems to work fine
now. Have no idea though what was really going on.

I want to note, that the first time I click on the Quit icon, it takes about
30-40 seconds for the dialog to show up.
After that, each time I click it shows up, instantly.

I came across the 'Power Manager unchecked' problem as well. Given that
responses seem to suggest that this is the cause for most people, I
suggest that this bug be about that problem, and if someone has a

Power Manager being checked fixed this problem, but I should not be
forced to have services running that aren't necessary for my system.

In System Preferences Sessions, there is an option for power
management.

I also have this issue. When I happens, I will have to ctrl-alt-
backspace to kill X. It has happened ~10 times now.

Did you uncheck Power Manager in the Sessions menu? I had the same
issue, then I checked that and on the next restart pushing the button
worked fine.

I did have it unchecked. I didn't feel that I needed power management
due to my main computer being a desktop and not a laptop. What other
functions does that process provide?
If I have this problem again, I will post back.

I'm being affected by this as well. ctrl-alt-backspace works for me.
I've been using #sudo shutdown -h now as a workaround. Additionally I
am getting init.d S99 automount - permission denied and CIFS VFS server
not responding, though I believe these to be unrelated.

I get the same problem, however for me the quit dialog does come up
about 2 minutes later if I sit and wait. If I cancel it, and then click
it again, the quit dialog works as it should until the next login.
