could you run gvfs-monitor on the Desktop directory and see if it lists
the change when you store the image? could you look at the modification
date in the properties too is that update? is the filesystem a local
one?

I can reproduce it, but not 100% of the time.
Try to make this :
1) print screen
2) save file as Capture.png
3) right click -> open with gimp
4) Draw lines on the picture
5) Close Gimp window and say yes to save the image
The thumbnail is not updated

I could reproduce the exact same bug on a fresh intrepid.
Deleting everything in ~/.thumbnails fixed the problem.
We should investigate this issue further.

Pedro, I've removed "~/.thumbnails" , and now it works OK, so I'm
wondering what was the cause.
The system was a fresh install of Hardy Alpha, with regular updates and
a clean "/home" , so no settings from a previous GNOME version.

Thanks for your report, I've just tested this and it works fine, opened
a jpg file edit it with gimp (in a bad way, lot of black color to see
the difference) after save the image with gimp, nautilus shows a white
thumbnail with a clock on it, which is the one shown for saying that's
working and aft
