Yes, I agree that it would be difficult to determine if all you are
given is just a string. However, there must be some indicator in the
email source that indicates that these are links (or that the author of
the email specified them as links) since they are *displayed* as a link.

could you send the request to bugzilla.gnome.org rather than reopening
the bug there? the ubuntu team doesn't have the ressources to work on
such details, the request is to write something not reliable and buggy
and having upstream opinion there would be better
