I tried to install, but without success. After installation, there is no
gthumb executable in the system.

If multiple files are selected and all of them are from same folder, the
behavior to choose Command Line Catalog is not logical to me. I
usually browse with file browser and when I enter the folder which
contains pictures I want to see or edit, I select them all and open with
gthumb. Something

If you select multiple files, gThumb is supposed to go into the catalog
mode and show the Command Line Catalog. That part of your report is
not a bug.
However, the Catalog/Folder buttons for switching modes do seem to be
broken. This has been reported upstream as
