I connects but I'm no longer able to use it as the mic and speaker no
longer function. I'm guessing a conflict with pulse audio but I could
be wrong.

Thank you for the try :)
At the moment there is no support for the upgrade, thus your preferences
might have been compromised.
Two things to checks:
Edit-Preferences-Audio-devices: select Default for all 3 entries.
Edit-Preferences-Audio-codecs: enable all of them.

I have seen this behaviour with existing accounts as well. Possible
issue with logging into the authentication server.
