Hello, I am having similar problems on gimp GIMP 2.8.6 and ubuntu 12.04.
I have enough disk space available. exporting to png work. The problem
seems to be with jpg images. I am attaching the image in order to test
it.

Given the amount of information provided, I cannot reproduce on GIMP
2.6.3 (intrepid-backports).
This bug should be marked as invalid (unless a more comprehensive test
case is provided).

Sorry for not getting back to you about this problem but it just went
away the next day. I went away for the night and that seemed to fix the
problem. Everything worked great.

Thanks for reporting this bug. We need a little more information.
Primarily we need to be able to reproduce it on our system. Could you
confirm the following:
* Opening a file, say 'foo.JPG' and saving it with a different name, e.g.
'bar.JPG', in your home directory triggers the bug.
