Upgrading to the most recent BIOS fixes the issue, but I don't think this is an appropriate solution, because it's complicated to do without Windows and biosdisk the tool needed to do it isn't packaged. Lots of ubuntu users have the M1330, Dell sell it with ubuntu preinstalled. --
