hal basically didn't change in intrepid, so I guess the new kernel
treats the polling ioctls differently/badly. WHen killing hald-addon-
cdrom, the phenomenon disappears, so I'm pretty sure it is that.

I can confirm the problem:
When I try to eject a cd/dvd, Ubuntu intrepid inserts the cdrom right back in
the cd/dvd drive.
OS Ubuntu 8.10 Beta 64-bit fully updated.
