I've volunteered to do this work, but it is taking some time to
acclimate myself to the codebase. The Empathy core developers don't
seem particularly interested in this feature, so I think those of us

In these times, end-to-end encryption is really a must. Even Google,
with switching to https, is starting to realize that security is
paramount. I find it shocking to read that this is lacking in the Ubuntu
default client.

Just to clarify;
1. the fedora guys have marked it as wont-fix
since which we read this comment in the fedora bug tracker:

considering how to include OTR. In the short run

Does empathy support any other form of encryption? I understand this
could be challenging when you need to support audio and video, but guys,
challenging doesnt mean you have to run away from it.
OTR or some sort of encryption at the client
I agree with previous posts - encryption is a must and OTR is what all
the others do, so it should be supported in the default IM, period.

Encryption support is a **MUST** in an IM program! This is **NOT** a

Empathy should not be the default IM client. As an option, it is fine.

Okay we get it. OTR is important to everyone and everyone thinks it's bad
that it's the default IM client in Ubuntu. The fact remains that these
