gthumb trunk is not stable. No releases have been made from trunk.
If you have problems with gthumb trunk, please report them and submit
patches upstream (http://bugzilla.gnome.org).

A Ubuntu release will usually ship with what was the latest stable
upstream release at the time of the given Ubuntu release's Feature
Freeze. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureFreeze
Trunk versions (= under development) are rarely considered for inclusion
in Ubuntu.
If Gnome releases a new
Correction: gthumb is not part of the core Gnome release, so the
standing Feature Freeze Exception does not apply AFAIK.
