Ok launchpad is not making things great today, I did commented here, but anyways. This is not a gnome-nettool issue since ubuntu ship as default iputils-ping and not inetutils-ping which is why the program doesn't work, you can either submit a wishlist bug for inetutils-ping requesting the -b
