At the moment, with gdm 2.14.9-0ubuntu1, there is no option in the login screen
to configure gdm.
The menu option after logged in does work.

this seems to have been fixed for me in the 2.14 release of gnome. i was
able to change the gdm screen from menu.

I can confirm that gdm-setup is not working, though not exactly in the same
manner as described here. Basically, when I run gdmsetup from the gnome menu,
the window comes up for half a second and then vanishes.
When I run sudo /usr/sbin/gdmsetup from an xterm, I get a segfault. I use my
own
Setting the root password and using that crashes gdmsetup.
It appears to crash the whole xserver on my system, which then immediately
reboots back into GDM.
