Pedro, I think the bug is related to bug #327924. In fact even without
threading the number of new notified messages isn't always right. So, at
first, we have to solve the other bug before triaging this one.

yes, notification is known to be broken in fact, it almost always says 1
new email in inbox, that's a known issue and being tracked on bug
