This might be an important hint.
I have been able to reproduce the bug as follows.
Install edgy. Choose american english in the installation. Use edgy
normally for a few days. Delete a file from a partition other than /, so
that a folder

It sounds as if it could be the same. When I first read bug 35565 it
missinterpeted it.

If I left-click and move to trash any file in my file system it does
not appear in the trash. It does however appear in home/myname/.trash
if I use the command line interface. It started happening when I
upgraded from Breezy to Dapper and has not stopped. I am patched
current as of 5-27-06. I

There was a misunderstanding. You asked me if I can delete a file in the /
directory on hda3. I said no: I don't have rights. Only root has them.
But I _can_ delete from /home/mau, which is also on hda3. If I do that, the bug
happens.
