Update: I'm using a laptop with an external monitor. Laptop resolution
is 1024x768, external VGA monitor resolution is 1280x1024. When I try to
scroll an evince window inside the laptop display everything works
smoothly. When I move the window to the external screen the above
mentioned symptoms

it happens with compiz turned on ? could you disable it? thanks.

I'm using a i915 and Metacity. AFAIK it does the same with compiz turned
on or off. It used to do the same in Intrepid too.
