From the dbus output it is evident that there are dbus signals going
out, but GPM isn't acting on them or the devicekit-power doesn't have
the right quirk for brightness control. Right now there are lots of
brightness bugs with gnome-power-manager as it is

GPM 2.27.3 isn't released yet, am I right? I just found 2.27.2 on GNOME Ftp.

2.27.3 hasn't been released yet. We will add it to Karmic pretty soon
after it is released on the gnome ftp, so you shouldn't have to worry
about building it yourself.
Tested on Karmic Koala Alpha 3 64bit, same problem.
On Jaunty Jackalope Ubuntu 9.04 32bit and Kubuntu 32bit, too.
Is there anything I can do? Post any log files?
