Hi Alvin, can you include an:
lshal -m
from the first special keypress you make onwards. The other possibility
is a stuck/repeating key that means there is constant apparent activity
so the screensaver loader never thinks it has been idle long enough.

I'm unable to repoduce this fault with my laptop (Asus V6V) with both
the screensaver and the 'Lock Screen' working as usual. Was there
anything in your logs on this fault?

my Acer is in the shop again (what a surprise), but my eMachines doesn't
do it. i'll recheck with my Acer when I get it back (assuming it works
long enough for the screensaver to kick in). for those of you with
Acers, are you running 64-bit or 32-bit?
