the culprit is thinkpad-keys gnome-power-manager. As mjg wrote on

Ah! Can you go to System/Preferences/Power Management, select the
general tab and disable Dim the laptop panel when idle, then see if
things work?

Some other program running may be grabbing the keyboard/mouse. Attach
output from ps aux before locking the screen.
