alacarte should advise you if you are running it as root, because that
is the fact that produces the later failure( to be honest, i don't
remember to run alacarte as root, so... ¿may be that thishappens during
a package config?)

While trying to add new menu items i get a new permisson problem.
I have done the following: sudo chown username:username /home/username/.local/
-R
Now the main menu is working correct.

I changed the permissions for the menus folder. With chown
username:username menus -R and the problem is gone.

Hi, i have the same Problem at the moment. If i run alacarte in terminal i get
the IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied:
'/home/myuser/.config/menus/applications.menu' .
If i run alacarte as with sudo, it starts correct but i am not able to add new
items for example.
What can i do here?

that's probably why you cannot save there now, you can either remove the
applications.menu file or change the owner with chown. not a bug.
