This issue is reproducible with Intel DX58SO motherboard. It occurs when when open sites which contains Rich AJAX or flash player. eg Yahoo Chess. This problem is prominent on Ubuntu Versions greater than 10.04. I reported this bug Bug 986773 with apport but they also regarded it as "Incomplete". Y

It depends on whether the crash only ever happens when you start your session, or if it happens when your session has been running for a while. If it is the latter, then all you need to do is "killall gnome- settings-daemon", then run a new instance with GDB (remembering "--sync --no-daemon", else
