I too am getting this problem. I am using latest Edgy for evolution and
uw-imap with an imap connection mainly. However, I have other
connections, some active, some not, to various other makes of imap
server (including exchange).
I have probably got a 100 or so folders altogether. Every couple of
I recently upgraded to Edgy and are hiving these quite regularly
I have multiple accounts setup (3) syncing between an IMAP server using
offlineimap.
I noticed a directory called: .#evolution and in starting / stopping a
couple of times I get the following msg in a dialog.:

do you still have that issue? evolution-data-server 1.8.1 fixes some fd
leak and might fix that bug too

No. However, due to other issues, my system does not stay up for very
long and therefore evolution is restarted very often.

Yes I still get Too many open files with the latest version in Edgy

It's a bit hard to increase the max open files limit as an ordinary user
when the default hard limit is 1024.
ulimit/limit is builtin in the shell, so you have to check the man page
of the shell.

'ulimit -n' says 1024
To change max open files to 10240 you type:
ulimit -n 10240
ulimit does not have a man page

I have the same problem with 2.8.0-0ubuntu2.
The only interesting thing I could find when running with
CAMEL_DEBUG=all was:

No, sorry, it hasn't happened since I moved away all my mail and
reimported a small subset of it.
I still get out of sync messages every few weeks and have to do the
disable accounts/shutdown/remove
It happens to me as well, although it can take a few days. I am using an
imap server (uw-imap). I will try running it with CAMEL_DEBUG and see
what happens.

The issue is fixed for you know? Do you still have a configuration and
the directory giving the issue to work on it or should the bug be
closed?

Thanks for your bug report - I never saw that message. Which version of Ubuntu
and evolution do you use? If this is reproducible, can you try to get a log
with
CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution evo.log
please?
