In that case we have a bigger issue (inconsistency in behavior) because
certain applications come back up (the ones I mentioned) and certain do
not (all other apps that ship with the distribution).

thank you for your bug report, that's not a bug though but a design
decision, the show desktop is not mean to send all software to the task
list but to show the desktop to be able to interact with it, once done
you get your normal layout back on screen
