Why is it invalid for sun-java and other java packages?
I know many packages who change mime icons when installed.
And about the answer upstream, well fortunately we live in the FLOSS
world and Ubuntu is not forced to be restricted by such Gnome
idiosyncrasies.

This has been fixed with the release of humanity-icon-theme 0.5.1 in
Lucid , we added several MIME specific icons.
To test :~$ touch test.java
or $ touch test.class
You *will* notice the java specific mime icon.
However , if you edit the file the icon with the text preview will be shown.

Or simpler than removing the icons , would be to turn off the text
preview feature from Nautilus :D

decide the right place for it. I can't see to figure out how to do that.
Otherwise you're effectively closing the bug. That's fine, if you want

.jar files should also be handled by java and have their own icons. Now
the default program for openning jar files is fille-roller, once I saw a
nice icon of a glass jar with an cofee bean inside

Open nautilus. They show with a generic text file icon. I have the
option (at least I think it's an option) to show text snippets in the
icon enabled, if that matters.
