I am not sure this is a gnome-power-manager issue by itself. I
experience this same issue using an ATI Radeon 8500 video card in Ubuntu
10.04. Unfortunately, I can test it in Ubuntu 10.10, maverick, because
it shuts my video, keyboard, mouse off before I can get the grub menu.

Latest on gnome-power-manager:
I thought, that the bug was fixed,
but realized, that another power-
manager, guidance-power-manager
along with xscreensaver 5.10
were actually active.
I adjusted this power manager,
within xscreensaver settings to
1440 minutes each.
I deleted gnome power
As of now, this power-management
bug is fixed!
It does not occur in Lucid at all.
And keeping up with daily
updates for the Official Karmic
version has resolved most bugs.
