I can confirm that, as of 15/5/2010, this bug still remains in Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit) with a fresh install. This is the official LTS release of Ubuntu, not one of the betas. Definitely seems tied to Pioneer 218 drives because I tried swapping the drive for a different brand and the problem went
