OK what happened was the following : The side pane width got to zero and was
not visible.
So I thought that this was a display mode from which I could not escape. I
tried the different options
for about 45 minutes over and over again.
In my opinion allowing zero width side pane is a bug. Not
@frlet888: the fact that you can set the side pane to zero width is
already the subject of bug 296564. I just created a new bug 529005 for
the fact that the View - Reset View to Defaults menu item has no effect
on the side pane. If you can confirm that the details of that bug are
correct, I can
@frlet888: can you try the following please: in the file browser menu,
select View - Side Pane. Or alternatively, press F9. This should
display the side pane with the directory structure in it. You can do
exactly the same to hide it again.
