Whatever package was the problem got fixed in the meantime as I've just
gotten home and the drive automounted just fine.

select the storage symptom? This will attach all required debug
information and do an interactive bug filing process.
For this one, can you please copypaste the output of
dpkg -l gvfs libgdu0 udisks
and
gvfs-mount -d

something seems to be still use devicekit dbus methods there where lucid
has udisks, it's not gvfs though
