Binary package hint: gnome-media

I'm running on an Inspiron 9400 laptop.

In both Ubuntu 10.04beta and 9.10, when I attempt to shift my volume,
the first two "notches" are completely muted, and any level after that,
the sound is completely cranked.

I'm hoping this can be fixed as I do not wish to damage my speakers due
to this frustrating and persistent bug.
